I work closely with family and/or friends to create a ceremony that reflects the life of the individual who has died. It is important to honour any wishes that the individual has expressed in regards to the service, while recognizing the feelings and needs of those who are bereaved.
Usually I like to spend a few hours in conversation with the bereaved in order to have a verbal portrait of the person who is being remembered. Then we choose readings and music that we feel best represents the interests and life of the individual. I encourage people to participate in the service in anyway that feels comfortable. Some people find it difficult enough to be present, others find comfort in reading a special selection or speaking, or performing musically. It is my desire to support the bereaved in whatever way that I am able, while co-creating a ceremony that provides a respectful and loving tribute.
