People often wish to acknowledge the gift of a new child.
When people are unaffiliated with a faith community it becomes necessary to explore
how they can, with integrity, participate in a ceremony that celebrates the new life that has been given into their care.
A “naming ceremony” gathers family and friends around the new infant as the parents announce the child's name; acknowledging that child's place within its first and intimate circle of community. Variations on this idea include a “dedication ceremony” or a “celebration of the gift of life.”
I have worked with families with diverse backgrounds to employ silence, word, music and symbol in order to create ceremonies that meet their needs and reflect their spiritual perspectives.
